Origin:

Bred by Pierre Coquereau (France, 1841).
Introduced in France by Jean-Pierre Vibert in 1843 as 'Chromatella'.
Introduced in Australia by Camden Park in 1850 as 'Cloth of Gold'.

Class:

Found Rose, Noisette, Tea Noisette.

Bloom:

Golden-yellow, ages to light yellow . Mild, tea fragrance. Average diameter 3.75". Large, full (26-40 petals), cupped, globular bloom form. Prolific, blooms in flushes throughout the season.

Habit:

Tall, armed with thorns / prickles, climbing. Large foliage. 5 to 7 leaflets.

Height: 11½' to 12' (350 to 365cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 6b through 9b (default). Can be used for garden or pillar. Vigorous. benefits from winter protection in colder climates. Protect tender new spring growth from hard freezes that may cause canker, die-back and death of the plant. . Remove spent blooms to encourage re-bloom. Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood..

Vintage Gardens classifies this rose as a tea-noisette.
'Comtesse de Beaumetz' is mentioned as a synonym.

["Eileen's Hill Farm Yellow Climber" found in Western Australia, came named as 'Cloth of Gold' from Eileen (who will be 86 in June, 2007), and said her mother planted it.]
