Hi All I am new to this, I have just moved into a new house and my front yards are full of roses mainly thornless ones but there are 2 I have no idea what they are or if they are roses. The are leaveless and looking a bit dead at the moment but they are full of thorns and yesterday I noticed they also had little red berries on them. If anyone knows what they could be and how to care for them it would be much appreiciated
thanks

From what I can see of a leaf, it is reminding me of one of the Riethmuller's roses bred from 'Gartendirektor Otto Linne' - perhaps 'Carabella', 'Gay Vista' or 'Spring Song' sort of thing. You will have to wait for a flower and then perhaps contact the Heritage Roses in Australia people in Queensland. They really know the Riethmuller roses there as they were so popular in Queensland. In the meantime, it is getting a little too late for pruning, but I would get rid of all that rope and twine, prune just one cane back to about 18 inches, buy a bag of sheep manure and give each rose half a bag. Depending on your soil, beg or borrow two tablespoons of sulphate of potash, divide it between the two roses, and just wait. Good on you for querying your old rose. Perhaps another picture of any resulting blooms later and we may be able to help further.
