'Talisman' rose Reviews & Comments

Why are Roselover's two photos contained under 'Talisman'?

I believe when she uploaded the photos in November 2014, she was under the impression they were ‘Sutter’s Gold’. Later her comment on April 1, 2015 says ‘Talisman’, so it seems as though her photos were moved from wherever they originally were, to Talisman. (take a look at the comments attached to her photo with her grandson). Ideally she needs to correct the caption containing the ‘Sutter’s Gold’ words.

When I posted the two photos of what I thought was Talisman in 2014, I had no idea this Rose was Sutter’s Gold. I even bought a talisman and planted it in my garden. But when it bloomed, it was not the rose two blocks away. I have a Sutter’s Gold plant, it has been a favorite of mine for over 25 years. This past year, I sent photos of this very large rose to a friend who is a well known Rosarians and can identify most roses. Right off the bat, he said Sutter’s Gold. By then, I was thinking the same from the fragrance and how it bloomed. It is the first rose to bloom in my garden and this year I had 4 bloom cycles. I then changed what I wrote about Talisman. Hello Joan, From the photos it was obvious the rose is not Talisman, not only in color but in size. Talisman grows at most three and a half feet high. Thanks for the correction.

Retains some (maybe 10%) of the sweet glandular smell from foetida on it's flower buds if you rub it a little bit.

Hello and HELP!
A lovely couple, both in their nineties and still maintaining a large and respectable garden, mentioned the other day how much they loved and missed their old 'Talisman' rose, adding, 'what a shame it is no longer available'. I would dearly love to surprise them with a couple. What are my chances?
Many thanks in anticipation,
John Wright.

Yes, isn't that the truth! Good luck. It looks like you shouldn't have a problem finding a source.

I'm looking for 1-4 Talisman rose bushes. Tried to send email previously - not sure it went through. My mother-in-law, recently diagnosed with inoperable cancer (last week), mentioned that she loved the Talisman rose and hasn't seen any for years. I would love to find 1-4 (her and family members) as soon as possible. Think it would be wonderful for her to have the experience of having this beautiful bush (and 1 for each of us to have to remember her when the time comes). Please notify asap. Thanks! barbara

Barbara if you click on the 'Buy From' tab at the listing you'll see that both Roque Valley and Vintage Gardens are listed as carrying this rose. I've done business with both, and have no problem in recommending either.

Vintage Gardens has the yellow version of this in stock, or you can order the reddish version as a custom grown rose. Vintage Gardens is listed under the Buy From section.

Thank you so much for the information re: Talisman @ Vintage Gardens. Unfortunately they are out of the "regular" stock and only stock them in bands. I'm afraid I don't have the time to wait for a band to grow in order to send to my mother-in-law. I'm still in search of gallon/+ plants that she can enjoy NOW - we're not sure how many tomorrows there are!!!!! Thanks again for your help! barbara
