'Kate Sheppard' SHAkat) Catalogue description certainly is true. "Clusters of clear warm pink flowers borne in profusion. Very healthy". This rose repeats quickly and whilst the bush was slow to get going it is well worth waiting for, a real joy to behold.

In the Floribundas all roses remain on the list but again with some shuffling, but 'Kate Sheppard' moved up from 11th to 7th. Amazing, just its second year on the list and already up to 7th spot.

'Kate Sheppard' (DHEkat); Sherwood 1994; breeding unknown; pink; 33 reports on 41 bushes; 1.3 metres; 8.1 rating. Although this rose has not been reported on for very long, it is already on the list of favourite floribundas - perhaps the hardest list to break into. It is a tall, upright, healthy bush with large foliage. It is a prolific flowerer and the flowers all open together, so you will see it increasingly on the show benches. Super healthy and with fast repeat. This is not a dainty demure plant, but a big, bold and brassy one. I am sure we will see it more and more as growers admire its health, vigour and the number of flowers produced.

'Kate Sheppard' has made an impact in the floribundas, not only gaining a top 20 spot, but charging in at 11th placing.

'Kate Sheppard' (SHEkat); Sherwood 1994; pink; 9 reports on 11 bushes; 1-3 years; 1.2 metres; 8.3 rating. A useful number of reports going from good to wow! Tall upright bush with HT type flowers. North Otago says prolific flowering, no fading, no vices. Waikato says no vices. Has done well at the shows. Lovely colour on a tall healthy bush. Marlborough thinks it is a delight. Flowers all open together so it must come up on the show bench. Paeroa loves this rose. Super healthy with a fast repeat. Very showy and makes good small or large stem. Gisborne says very nice. Another North Otago reporter says lovely colour with fast repeat but blows quickly in hot weather. Lots of blooms. Bay of Plenty found their tall bush healthy with beautiful trusses of pink blooms that stand out. Repeats well and lasts well in a vase. Taranaki found their bush healthy with many blooms.

p38 Virginia Winder. New Plymouth. Another test for Margaret [Goble] has been growing trial roses for Waitara man George Sherwood. She points out a tall floribunda rose with large pink blooms bearing a fruity scent. It is 'Kate Sheppard', named in honour of the first New Zealand leader of women's suffrage, which has been on the market since 1994.

'Kate Sheppard' (SHEkat); Sherwood 1994; pink; 8 reports on 8 plants; 1-4 years; 1.3 metres; 8.0 rating. The high rating has been maintained again this year so more should be growing it. It is a HT type floribunda which we do not see too often these days. Paeroa likes the strong pink colour, very showy and stands out in the garden, repeat good. Northland rates highly, healthy, has exhibited it, pretty pink colour. Wairoa is very pleased with it, good colour and health. Southland says it is doing well, pretty colour, growth habit different. Waikato says bush is spindly with weak necks, healthy and free flowering. North Otago says lovely rose, lots of bloom, excellent colour, no vices and rates highly.

Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1996-97 Season.
'Kate Sheppard' (SHEkat); Sherwood 1994; pink; 6 reports on 6 plants; 1-2 years; 1.2 metres; 8.0 rating. The first reports on this new HT type floribunda from our own George Sherwood. Overall reports are positive and impressed. Kaitaia has found it good for exhibiting, large clusters of HT type blooms, healthy light green foliage. Manawatu says a splendid new floribunda, clear rose pink in small clusters, straight slim upright stems are well foliaged in light green foliage, substance poor - doesn't like rain. Waikato finds it a good performer, free flowering, disease free. Two reports from Northland both say it has small and large stems in lovely colouring, well clothed foliage and good repeat. North Otago abundance of bloom, repeat is good. A very promising rose with a real New Zealand flavour, it was very good when in the trial ground and I thought it should have scored higher.
