Bred by David C. H. Austin (1926-2018) (United Kingdom, 1990).
Introduced in United Kingdom by David Austin Roses Limited (UK) in 1999 as 'Falstaff'.

Bloom:

Dark red. Strong, old rose fragrance. 41 to 50 petals. Average diameter 3.5". Medium to large, full (26-40 petals), cupped, old-fashioned, reflexed, rosette bloom form. Once-blooming spring or summer. Rounded buds.

Habit:

Bushy, upright. Semi-glossy, leathery foliage. 5 leaflets.

Height: 39" to 5' (100 to 150cm). Width: 39" to 4' (100 to 120cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 5b through 9b. Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.
