With 'Charleston' (Meilland, 63)...the Red content increases while expanding. A decrease of carotinoids and a new formation of anthocyanins was ascertained here.

'Redgold' fades to a soft red-gold colour and this distinguishes it from 'Charleston', which is equally good and just as showy in the bud but it [Charleston] changes to a deep red colour as it ages.

Of the multi-coloured red and yellow varieties, Charleston is easily the best, with a delightful flower turning from yellow to red.  It, too, has nice reddish foliage which enhances the flower cluster.
