I have been having a discussion on the Cecil Brunner rose--Is it Cecil or Cecile?? Is it named after a he or a she?? Some places even said Mademoselle Cecile Brunner--or are there two different pink climbers with similar names?? Nel Rogers

Hello Nel, Check out the Helpmefind file for this rose to see the earliest references. You will find the 1882, 1883 and 1885 ones list the name of the 1880 bush as 'Mlle. Cecile Brunner'. Nothing at all Cecil-like about this pretty little lady.

Confusingly, when it comes to the climber, the Mlle. was dropped and the name of the 1894 climbing version was 'Climbing Cecile Brunner'.

If you want to continue your discussion with your friends, you might also like to have a look at the 'Spray Cecile Brunner'. That should keep you going.
