Hi Beth. I love your pictures! May I ask which rose do you like best between Spellcaster, Paradise and Cloudland?
I have been looking for Spellcaster. I also live in Northern Ca. Where did you find yours? Thanks

Hi Kelley
I think probably SPELLCASTER would be my favorite of the three. They're all beautiful, but CLOUDLAND doesn't bloom very often, and PARADISE is lovely but I like the more blended coloring on SPELLCASTER better, and the form also. I got my plant probably around 16yrs ago from an elderly lady that my husband's mom took care of. He did yard work for her. One day she decided to have him dig out a bunch of her roses. She gave them to us. I had just been bit by the rose bug a few yrs before. So, it was quite thrilling to get all those roses. Unfortunately, I don't have any of the others today. I lost a lot of roses to sunburn at our old place. Too bad too, because some were ones you can't get easily now. There was SAN ANTONIO, GEORGIA and an OLE tree rose. I think some of the others were MR LINCOLN, CHRYSLER IMPERIAL and CHRISTIAN DIOR. She liked red roses.
Nobody carries SPELLCASTER any more. I might be sending Cliff some cuttings one of these days, but I'm not sure if he can propagate it yet. I think it's still under patent.

Hello again Beth. Thanks you for answering me. What a nice story. I bet the elderly lady loved her roses and wanted to make sure they lived on. So sad some were lost.
It looks like if this one was patented it would have run out by now for rose patents last 17 years. So you might send some cuttings to Cliff from here? Another great rosarian. I sure would love to go to both your gardens for spring flush! What a treat.
I am so sad it is not available anywhere. If you decide to start some to keep it from going extinct and sell them, please let me get in your line. Thanks

Hi Kelley,
I wasn't sure how many yrs a rose patent lasts. I will definitely get some cutings to Cliff in the spring. I am sending him several others too.

I sure hope they root for him. I do not think the San Jose rose garden has it anymore. They have lost a lot of roses due to diseased soil. I have looked and looked for it there over the last year and have never seen it.
A friend who works at Regan's looked it up for me yesterday just to see if someone was growing it and he said no one in this country. Only 1 country is and he could not pronouce its name LOL. So I guess I can't take a trip there. LOL
I am hoping now that it is not patented, someone may decide to propagate it and offer it for sale.
I would be more than happy to trade you for some cuttings. I doubt I have any roses that would interest you but do you need a gift certificate to your favorite rose nursery? Vintage may go out of business (horrors) they say on their site, so this may be a good time to get roses from there you may want.
