Très apprécié aux Etats-Unis… kyrielles de fleurs écarlates, épanouies en grands bouquets drus sur de robustes rameaux… en coupe, odorantes et bien doubles... Vigoureux et accomodant... robustes tiges flexibles, garnies d’un abondant feuillage vert franc, d’ordinaire très sain, encore qu’au Royaume-Uni, il soit parfois touché par l’oïdium. Sa remontance automnale est sujette à discussion; sur ce point, il se peut qu’il ait été confondu avec une forme sélectionnée ultérieure. Kallay, US 1932.

('Paul's Scarlet Climber' x 'Grüss an Teplitz') For many years 'Blaze' was the most popular climbing rose, at least in America. Flowers: red, middle-sized, clusters. The original 'Blaze' was reluctant to rebloom. In 1950 Jackson & Perkins discovered a more continuously blooming clone which they originally called 'Blaze Superior' which has usurped the original in catalogues, and dropped (usually) the 'Superior' from its name.

Book (1978) Page(s) 161. 'Paul's Scarlet Climber' ..... In the United States, a form called 'Blaze' was raised by Joseph Kallay of Painesville, Ohio, and introduced by J. & P. in 1932. It was supposed to be remontant, but we in Britain could not see any difference from the original.
