Eltville is literally in bloom when more than 20,000 rose bushes, including many rare and old varieties, paint the city awash with colour during high season in early summer. Among the 350 varieties are the flaming red 'City of Eltville,' as well as the Japanese breed 'Beautiful Eltville,' which smells like apples. Two new varieties have been added to Eltville’s roses since 2006: Johannes Gutenberg and 'Hildegard von Bingen.'
