Discovered by Barbara May (Australia, before 2003).

Class:

Found Rose, Hybrid Tea, Tea.

Bloom:

Rose-pink. Rose pink, some white stripes. Nubs yellow.. Average diameter 3.25".

Patents:

Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).

Notes:

"Arthur Gates" found in a Sydney cemetery.
Possibly 'Beaute Inconstante' but research is ongoing.
These initial observations on one visit to one plant only .

Inflorescence: Solitary, clusters of 2, pedicels sparsely glandular.

Bud: Plump, slightly plump point

Sepals: Have white dots.

Bloom: 7-8 cms. Not over double. Fairly irregularly arranged petals.
"Arthur Gates" bloom seems lighter and less stiff than 'Beaute Inconstante'.

Petals: Rounded wedge; medium texture.

Stamens and carpels: Show when open.

Receptacle: Large cup.

Fragrance: Dryish Tea, not strong.

Foliage: 5 leaflets. Very large rounded oval leaves, widely separated, terminal leaf often quite round. Mildewy. Seem to be fairly thin and wavy. Some have extended point. Serrations fine near base and coarser near top. "Arthur Gates" foliage seems more elongate than 'Beaute Inconstante'.
