Bred by Robert Brown (Scotland, circa 1796).
Introduced in Australia by Joseph Harris, South Yarra Nurseries in 1865 as 'Mount Vesuvius'.
Class:
Centifolia, Gallica / Provins.  
Bloom:
Dark red.  Double (17-25 petals) bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.
