Peter Jackson. Eric [Flinn] is now in the process of proving that his success [with 'Mikayla Paige'] was no fluke. He has another entry in the trial ground this year, a cross between 'Mikayla Paige' and an unnamed seedling (a cross between 'Jadis' and Waikato), a floribunda which he believes has more merit than 'Mikayla Paige', and which was in fact the stunning result of his first serious attempt at breeding. One of the crop of just five seedlings produced the goods, although the final result has benefited significantly from budding. Its only drawback perhaps is that it is so clearly descended from 'Margaret Merrill' that its novelty value has not always impressed seedling class judges. It was placed second at the World Rose show in Christchurch in 1994 though, and whatever its commercial fate might be, it represents a remarkable debut.
