Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1989-90 Season.
'Bruno' Floribunda. Simpson. Dark browny red, 5 reports, 7 bushes, 1-8 years, 1.1m, 7.8 rating. Colour is like 'Hot Chocolate' or 'Colourbreak', a colour you either like or loathe. The open blooms come in neat heads, large and small, but sometimes the necks are weak. The repeat is good. Bush grows well and is healthy, but spider mites enjoy it. Recommended.

Don Sheppard. Final Analysis 1985-86.
'Bruno' Floribunda. orange-red. 16 reports, 1.2m 7.8 rating. As the score indicates this rose is highly regarded by those who grow it. Most are exhibitors and make no apology for emphasizing it either However, all reporters like the unusual orange-red-brown colour. The blooms, which come in large and small clusters, are well shaped and open to show golden stamens. They last well on the bush and in a vase. It blooms quite early. The foliage is a good, glossy green and everyone finds the plant healthy, although red mites love it! 'Bruno' is recommended for the exhibitor and the garden enthusiast.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1984-85 Season. Floribundas.
'Bruno'. Mahogany red. 4 reports, 5 bushes, 2-8 years, 1.2 metres, 7.5 rating. Four reporters all from North Island are very pleased with this rose. The colour may not appeal to all, but it is interesting, unusual and good for the floral artist. Franklin says it produces well shaped heads, large and small, but the red spiders love it. Kapiti reports neat trusses on a healthy bush, and Palmerston North, two reports, say early blooms, healthy, it shows well. Which all sounds very good. Try it and find out yourselves.

'Bruno' (not in Modern Roses 8). Orange brown. 5 reports, 5 years average growing. 3' height, 7.3 rating. More reports of this unusual coloured rose say they're finding it satisfactory in their gardens. Manawatu, Nelson, Hutt and Central Taranaki have sent in reports this year on this rose. It flowers early in most areas but in Manawatu it tends to be a late starter. It repeats well, producing both large and small heads which last well. Manawatu finds that the red spider loves it.
