'Somerville Gold' rose References
Magazine (Nov 1999) Page(s) 8. Golden Anniversary. South Brisbane’s Christian school, Somerville House, was recently presented with a gold rose to highlight the centenary celebrations. The rich yellow, subtly fragrant rose ‘Somerville Gold’ was bred by NSW rose breeder, Eric Welsh. It’s a wonderful, long lasting cut flower with shiny, dark green foliage, few thorns and a high resistance to disease. The rose is priced at $20 for a single plant or $50 for three plants and is available from the Development Office of Somerville House, phone (07) 3248 9272

A Visit to Southern Nurseries… Eric [Welsh] must have had a good year in 1995 when he made several crosses using ‘Gold Medal’ and being a sucker for a yellow rose, I was very interested on this occasion because I had been asked to pick a rose for Somerville House for their Jubilee. I was glad on this occasion I had Desley, Morrie and Bid to help. I finally settled on a floribunda, the image of ‘Gold Medal’, about 5 or 6 to a head.
