Many members have commented on the beautiful roses shown on the cover of our Christmas 1998, issue and photographed in the Societies and garden. 'Pierette' is a Hybrid Rugosa shrub with large, semi-double flowers that are sweetly scented. The flowers are produced early and continuously from June until the frosts arrive. A very attractive display of hips is produced in the autumn which are pretty in the garden or cut for decorations and the birds love them. The plant makes a compact bush about 3 feet high by 3 foot wide. It was awarded a Trial Ground Certificate in the RNRS International Rose Trials, but has, so far, not been available in this country. However, the Society has managed to obtain a special consignment of this highly disease resistant rose and is able to offer them to members at the following prices.... Orders should be sent with remittance to the Society's HQ. Plants will be delivered in time for spring planting this year.

A Certificate of Merit and the Harry Edland Medal for fragrance was awarded to Tantau for Pierette, a cerise Rugosa Shrub which filled one's vision with bloom and the air with scent right through the season. In addition to this we were treated to the bonus of large attractive orange hips.

Pirette A wonderfully fragrant rugosa that won the Harry Edland Fragrance Medal from the Royal National Rose Society of England. A compact, bushy, well foliaged plant with typical, mid-green rugosa foliage topped off by the beautiful semi-double blooms of a shade of purple-pink. Extremely fragrant. The ideal rugosa for small gardens. Repeat blooming. 3 ft. (1980's)
