["To today's colour plate" by Friedrich Henkel] Two new roses are pictured on today's colour plate, but these are not tender damsels, but fresh strong lasses from the countryside. The home country of the white rose is Shantung in China; the cradle of her parents stands in the German tenure Kiautschou...thus we Germans have to care for christening and support. But they will be worth it and have already shoen their good will. Both are very floriferous, when if with single blooms. We shall call the white "Kiautschou" after her homeland. She is possibly only a beautiful large-blooming form of the already longer-known Rosa multiflora Thunbg., which discerns herself through better clarity of colour. The buds have reddish reflexes, the blooms are tender yellow when expanding, the stamens deep yellow. The blooms become snow-white only later. She is hardy, densely branched, blooming on graceful canes and has dainty, fresh glossy foliage. With an infinite amount of blooms, she produces a flower carpet which is half spread over the bush, and half laid out over the ground on the slim tendrils. She is equally suitable to fill vases, flower baskets and high glasses.
