Article (newspaper) (27 Oct 1868) Mr Johnson, of Hawthorn, is rather famous for raising new roses, and he left for our inspection yesterday blooms of two - the ‘Duke of Edinbough’, and ‘William Taylor’. These are of slightly different shades of bright scarlet, and differ somewhat also in form. The first is large and cup-shaped when open; the latter globular, and both are very fine roses. We have not been informed as to the strains or varieties they were raised from, but they are evidently of strong, free and healthy growth.
