Class:
Hybrid Bracteata, Hybrid Rugosa.
Bloom:
Carmine-pink and cherry-red. None to mild, apple, fruity fragrance. 12 to 25 petals. Average diameter 4". Medium to large, double (17-25 petals), cluster-flowered, in small clusters, cupped-to-flat bloom form. Prolific, blooms in flushes throughout the season. Medium, pointed, rounded buds.
Habit:
Tall, arching, lax, spreading. Large, semi-glossy, medium green, leathery foliage. 3 to 7 leaflets.
Height: 4' to 6' (120 to 185cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 5a and warmer. Can be used for garden, landscape or specimen. Very vigorous. drought resistant. heat tolerant. prefers full sun. Disease susceptibility: very mildew resistant.
Breeder's notes:
This is still a seedling in a large container in my breeding house, so my knowledge of its behaviors is still limited. However, it has shown excellent vigor, good, lasting color, and absolutely zero inclination to Mildew. It also has extraordinary petal texture and sets seed readily. I will be sowing the first seeds from it in Spring 2009 to evaluate its usefulness as a breeder. It has a most interesting pedigree, involving R. bracteata, R. rugosa, and several well known Miniature breeders.
Its Ploidy is unknown, but given its parentage, it is probably a tetraploid.
