I disected one of the orange bulbs left on my Sam Houston rose bush and I would like to know if I can use the small seeds to grow additional bushes. I am new at this, so any information you can send me will be most appreciated. I live in southeastern Oklahoma and the roses on this bush are simply beautiful. Thank you for anything you can tell be about caring for it. I find that I love to float the blooms in the shallow dish with floating candles. It is so effective as a center piece for your dinner table.

Yes, you can use the seeds to grow a rose, but it won't be the same rose from which you harvested the hip. The only roses which grow true to type from seed are species roses. The rose that grows from your seeds will have a "seed parent" named 'Sam Houston Rose' and the pollin parent is unknown, unless you made a deliberate cross.

It's still interesting to experiment and grow the seeds on to see what you get. You might end up getting hooked on hybridizing your own roses! It really is fun.

Smiles,

Lyn
