Origin:

Bred by George Mander (Canada, 1992).

Class:

Miniature.

Bloom:

Mauve or purple blend. Mild fragrance. 26 to 40 petals. Average diameter 2.5". Medium-large, full (26-40 petals) bloom form. Prolific, continuous (perpetual) bloom throughout the season. Medium, decorative buds.

Habit:

Tall, bushy, well-branched. Medium, glossy, dark green foliage.

Height: 20" to 3' (50 to 90cm). Width: 1' to 15" (30 to 40cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 4b and warmer. Can be used for container rose, cut flower, exhibition or garden. Very hardy. very vigorous. flowers drop off cleanly. prefers full sun. requires full sun for best color. Disease susceptibility: disease resistant, very mildew resistant, very rust resistant. Remove spent blooms to encourage re-bloom. Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that. Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood.. Can be grown in the ground or in a container (container requires winter protection). Can be pruned to maintain a shorter habit. Cut back one-half every year.. Feed this rose well. Prune lightly until this rose gets established (about two years), then prune it back by about a third..

Breeder's notes:

This is my "First Miniature" introduced. It's pollen parent 'MANpurple' was born way back in 1974.
It took me 15 years of trial and error to finally have this miniature inherit the colour of 'MANpurple'. (See HMF MANpurple photos) The first mini rose I grew in 1988 & tried as seed parent was 'Rise 'n' Shine' which finally gave me a few seedlings with the purple/cream bicolor in 1990.
This rose has a unique new ruby-purple/cream bicolour. The ruby colour intensifies to purple with age and sun. Long stems with large buds, great for arrangements. Very vigorous and winter hardy. A must for those who collect unusual plants. Very mildew resistant, but it will get blackspot if not sprayed every 6-8 weeks. Plants will grow very tall with larger blooms than most minis.
