Magazine (Oct 1918) Page(s) 53. Includes photo(s). 'Walküre'* (Hybrid Tea). Paul Ebeling 1918. 'Walküre' originates from a crossing of Druschki and Mme. Jenny Guillemot. The plant is very vigorous, but not so stiff as the seed parent, well-branched, produces up to 15 canes, which each bring forth mostly solitary blooms. The bloom has a long, pointed form, has a noble form [i.e. high-centered]; individual petals are reflexed as with La France. The colour is cream-white, inside ochre-yellow. An extraordinarily floriferous sort, very resistant against influence of weather and diseases, which up to now has endured winter without any cover. She can be especially recommended as a cutting rose and good autumn-bloomer, but can also be used equally well as a group rose. Walküre can be called an Improved Jenny Guillemot. * No other time than the current could have given better reason to name this rose Walküre. Walküres (battle maidens) are according to Germanic mythology semi-divine virgins, who in the service of Odin, the God of Battle, ride on cloud horses through air and over the sea to Walstatt in order to decide on the Fight and especially to protect the Heroes to which Odin has promised the Victory from the weapons of the enemies.
Magazine (Aug 1918) Page(s) 48. The Rose Novelty Show on occasion of the Board meeting [of the German Rose Society] in Frankfurt... We had reported extensively about the new originations of Paul Ebeling, Bernburg, on occasion of last year's show...We can only repeat what we said on p.71 of last year's Nr. 4: ...Druschki X Mme Jenny Guillemot has long, slim canes with elongated buds. The bloom is cream-white, yellow inside and mildly fragrant. She is said to be an extraordinarily faithful bloomer and especially good cutting rose for autumn.
