Excerpt of a Robert Simonet letter to Percy Wright, October 14/1965.

"Earlier this year I wrote you of 2 yellow roses from the cross of Joanna Hill x Altaica to pollen of Hazeldean, which has fairly large yellow flowers when they first open but which fade rather fast. Their bud form and petal texture are better than Hazeldean. One of them blooms only in June-July, but the other has flowers in September, much as Altai itself often does. So far, both have had fewer blooms than Hazeldean does for a bush of the same size, but they may improve in this feature in their second year of blooming."

"....cross of Joanna Hill x Altaica..." This is Simonet's 'Dr. F. L. Skinner'.

Excerpt of a Robert Simonet letter to Percy Wright, November 30/1972.

"My Jean rose, which is (Joanna Hill x Altaica) x Hazeldean repeats its semi-double yellow flowers in the fall, but sets no seed. I am using its pollen."

"Jean - Seedling of Hazeldean - Simonet
A low growing, hardy, compact bush, with double, well formed amber yellow blossoms. Not really a heavy bloomer, but produces through the season. Sets no seed, and does not sucker. Have been unable to supply request for plants. Mine is grafted on a Kamschatka root from scions received from Mr. Simonet years ago."
Walter Schowalter notes 1985
