Bred by Hermann Zabel (Germany, before 1895).
Introduced by Unknown in before 1900 as 'Rosa Scharnkeana Graebn.'.
Class:
Species Cross.  
Bloom:
Purple - pink.  Single (4-8 petals), borne mostly solitary, in small clusters bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  Glandular sepals, rounded buds.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles, bushy, spreading, suckers on its own roots.  Glossy foliage.  7 to 9 leaflets.  

Height: 20" to 39" (50 to 100cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).
