I bought this rose bareroot from Jackson & Perkins this year. I mainly bought it because it was on sale, and it looked like the most interesting of their red floribunda choices available. That said, man has this been a great rose so far!

Black Cherry has been absolutely covered in blooms. The buds are a very dark red (practically black, hence the name) and open to an unfading brilliant red. Early on, the outer petals are slightly darker, but it's very subtle. The blooms do not seem to be bothered by the rain and the bush has been perfectly healthy so far this season. I won't consider myself an expert of foliage, but BC does seem to have foliage on the lighter side of green. It presents a beautiful contrast in color to the dark red buds and bright red flowers. The fragrance is mild.

At this point, I can't see why Black Cherry isn't more popular and seen more often. Honestly, it's been my favorite rose so far. If you're looking for a workhorse red floribunda that needs little maintenance to brighten up the garden, BC is a great choice! 2 enthusiastic thumbs up.

August 2016 Update: Black Cherry has continued to be an all-star rose. Although in the 100 degree July and August heat the blooms fry some (although almost all roses do), it has been 100% clean. BC is an all-around great rose and always gets compliments.

I have this rose growing in a large pot under the shade of a tree and it gets only a few hours of sun a day. It is always in bloom in extreme heat and humidity, and has about a dozen blooms on it right now. It is very beautiful and people just love commenting on how lovely it is. It has no blackspot or disease problems.

I've grown this rose for a couple of seasons in zone 5/6. It is a beautiful rose that keeps its color (no fading) throughout the season. It is very disease resistent, long lasting and stays intact after a rain storm. I never see this rose at garden centers but can assure you from someone who has grown this rose, it's a beauty.

What size is "Black Cherry" in your zone? I'm in zone 7, and knowing your zone will give me a good idea of how large it might grow here. Thanks, Victoria.

It's about 3.5'. I think at maturity it can grow to 4' to 5', according to the tag from Jackson & Perkins. It's a beautiful rose, very similar to Crimson Bouquet but deeper in color.
