Bred by François Marest (France, 1852).
Introduced in Australia by John Baptist in 1861 as 'Prince Léon Kotschoubey'.
Class:
Hybrid Bourbon, Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Crimson or cherry-red.  Strong, sweet fragrance.  Average diameter 3.5".  Large, very double, in small clusters, cupped-to-flat bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Large, leafy sepals, rounded buds.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles.  Dark green foliage.  3 to 5 leaflets.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).

Notes:
Prince Léon Kotschoubey, landowner in Ukraine, living in Paris, was proclaimed a member of the Société Central d'Horticulture de France on May 15, 1851. His garden in Russia is mentioned in Annales de la Société centrale d'horticulture de France, May 1848, p. 203.
