Mauve or mauve blend. Registration name: Catinat (gallica, Vibert, 1838)
Bloom:
Carmine-red. Spotted purple. Moderate fragrance. Large, double (17-25 petals), borne mostly solitary, quartered, reflexed bloom form. Once-blooming spring or summer.
Habit:
Upright. Medium green foliage.
Height: up to 35" (up to 90cm). Width: up to 4' (up to 120cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 8b. Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood.. Prune after flowering is finished.
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
Different opinions about origin (see references). Newest studies seem to indicate that the breeder was Vibert in 1838.
