THUD. Updating/re-posting, one from my childhood that I "could not live without" and paid for custom root and bought bands on top of that for a total of 3....................THUD. Not a BAD rose. EXACTLY the rose I remember and described in my prior post. Just really not a GOOD rose, not sure WHY I loved it so much, reminds me of Smokey and also Showbiz (HP is really a FL, it got mis-classed I feel) but Showbiz nails sprays with tiny ruffles and Smokey nails the odd ashey tones and poor HP sort of "maybe gets them right"................I do think it got under-rated and crushed in reviews on release. But it sure isn't an amazing rose. Like TAJ MAHAL.....I waited sooooooooooooooo long to meet this one again and it is like seeing your grade school crush 90 lbs overweight and sporting a mullet...............

I LOL'd at the last part.

There are so few good orange-red HT/GRs now.

Grew this one at first release, Northern Cal/Chico area, late 70's.....recall it being quite low rated by the AARS and never sure quite why the society was so brutal. Not an AMAZING rose, but solid, voraciously thorny, dark maroon canes, even in mild zone did not grow quite as tall as many Grandifloras/straddles the Floribunda definition....very colorful, blooms a bit ruffled, color is dusky blood red fading purple and ruddy and remind me somewhat of both Gypsy and Smokey.......for those who just might be looking for it, Vintage Gardens finally (!!) has produced some bands---NOW AVAILABLE 10/12.......
