‘Golden Surprise’. Modern, cluster-flowered floribunda, deep yellow, repeat flowering. There are been two good sports of ‘Woburn Abbey’, both of which were raised in Australia. ‘Woburn Gold’ by Robinson of New South Wales in 1970 and ‘Golden Surprise’ by Hamilton in Victoria in the same year. ‘Woburn Gold’ is very similar to ‘Woburn Abbey’, whereas ‘Golden Surprise’ seems to be a considerably shorter grower. The flowers are golden yellow and are produced in both small and large clusters. The blooms fade to rather a dirty color and persist on the bush. There can be some mildew problems, and ‘Woburn Gold’ is definitely the better of the two. Zones 5-9. Hamilton, Australia, 1970. Sport of ‘Woburn Abbey’.
