The Garden 52:370 (Nov 6, 1897) The fine new hybrid Rose Purity (here illustrated), raised by Messrs. Geo. Cooling and Sons, Bath, has pure white flowers with a faintly flushed centre, the petals stiff and of great substance. When shown at the National Rose Society's show at Portsmouth on July 17 of the present year it was much admired. R.

The Garden 58: 32 (July 14, 1900) ROSE PURITY (HYBRID BOURBON). For a garden Rose to obtain the gold medal of the National Rose Society is surely no mean distinction. Doubtless such Roses as Viscountess Folkestone, Camoens, dec, were never entered for this honour or they would have secured it; therefore because the variety under notice has been fortunate enough to obtain it, does not necessarily place it above the varieties named for usefulness in the garden. That it will become a valuable florists' flower appears certain, for not only do we obtain a beautiful delicate colouring and exquisite form, but it is, moreover, early flowering, appearing some ten or twelve days before other Roses of like quality. The petals are of good substance, and reflexed after the manner of that lovely old Rosa alba rosea. The growth being semi-climbing enables one to grow this Rose pillar form or arched over in a semi-pegged down manner. In the latter style of training almost every eye will produce a bloom bud that the florist or gardener will find useful for bouquets and button-holes. P.
