Book (1972) Page(s) 33. In 1963 Woman’s Day launched an Australia-wide competition for an Australia-raised rose, which was won by Mr. Fred Armbrust of Brisbane. It was a Hybrid Tea rose, matured into a neat flower with terracotta colouring.

Sponsored by the magazine whose name it bears, this variety won the Australia-wide competition for a seedling rose, held last year. The colour is a vermilion red, and it has about 20 to 25 petals. Mostly the flowers come in threes on a fairly long stem.

In November, 1964 Woman’s Day announced the Winner of their nationwide Competition for the best seedling Rose raised in Australia. The Winner was Mr. Fred Armbrust of Brisbane, a noted amateur Hybridiser. Over the years we have been testing many of Mr. Armbrust’s seedlings and he has proven most successful with a number of his seedlings. A number already have been released exclusively by us. The most important have been Tania Verstak, Mystic Gem, Evening Glow and Sea Mist. We have been testing the seedling which ultimately proved the Winner of this nationwide Competition and now we have the go ahead signal we will be propagating Woman’s Day rose for 1966 sales. We are booking orders for Woman’s Day for 1966 delivery and we would be happy to accept your bookings. Price will be announced in our 1966 catalogue. Proposed price at this stage 12/6 to 15/- each.
