Dickerson disputes the date of 1829 commonly given for this rose because he could not find it listed in Prévost's catalogs around that time.

Even today, it is a variety that is difficult to find and if you look at the puny specimens of it growing at L'Haÿ, you'd think it was on the verge of extinction.
