Book (1943) Page(s) 13. R. Marion Hatton. The World's New Roses. A few days after the Jap raid on Hawaii (December 7, 1941), Fred Howard wired me that he was applying for registration of their new Roses under the names Anzac, Douglas MacArthur and Pearl Harbor. Registration was effected in due course, and the varieties were offered in this spring's catalogues. None of these is going to create excitement in the shows, but the gardener is going to like their respective plants. The plants of Douglas MacArthur were of only medium height, but were more bushy. The thirty-five petalled blooms opened shell-pink, showing darker centre petals with an orange glow at base. There was a bad habit of holding the dead petals, but a rich, fruity fragrance was something to pay attention to.
