The Pretoria News Centenary MACgeorgi i(N) Glossy, very healthy foliage; with great vigour, produces at first 1,5m long, flowering basal canes which are eventually decorated with medium long, side stems, each carrying a large, firm petalled, apricot-cream shapely bloom.

Emperor (MACgeorgi) McGredy 1998: Garden rating 7.4, Exhibition rating 7.5: 74 reports on 114 bushes. What a great rose from Sam McGredy. Over the last four years there have been hardly any major faults reported. It's healthy, with a great perfume, very good for picking and showing, though the flowers are a bit on the small size. Does get very tall. Could be the rose for every garden. Good reports from all parts of the country. I grow about six bushes and over the last two years I've hardly sprayed and it shows no sign of any disease.

Emperor (MACgeorgi) McGredy 1998: Garden rating 7.6, Exhibition rating 7.3: 26 bushes, 17 reports. Disease resistant: Moderate fragrance: Very tall: Pale amber/cream flowers. Waikato grower loves the colour. Te Awamatu - small flowers ball in the rain. Central Otago - has strong upright growth, flowers last well on bush. Moutere Hills - a delightful rose that lasts well in vase. Flowers on the small side for exhibiting. Has handled difficult growing conditions this season. Nelson would like more flowers. Waikato - gorgeous perfume. Has had good exhibition blooms but bad weather in spring failed to produce any this year. Another Waikato says it is a good garden rose. Canterbury bush has too few flowers. Northland - good . in the spring but not many flowers in autumn. Growth over 8ft.

Emperor (MacGeorgie) is certainly one of my very best having every trait required for this type. will need some disbudding but little other special care to produce the goods. I think it is McGredy's best HT and is definitely one of the 'bankers' from which I prefer to make choices. A dependable variety for beginners with almost automatic good size, lovely formation, good vigour and health.... but whoa.... horrific thorns!

Emperor (MACgeorgi) McGredy 1998: Garden rating 7.4, Exhibition rating 7.7: 35 bushes, 23 reports. Disease resistant: Moderate fragrance: Very tall: Pale amber/cream flowers. Moutere Hills reports very tall, 2 metres; upright growth. good health. Canterbury - can produce good exhibition blooms but grows too tall. Waikato reporter calls this rose one of the best, healthy. Very tall with an abundance of flowers. Northland - good exhibition blooms. Another Canterbury grower - blooms too small for exhibiting, grows very tall. Another Waikato garden - good exhibition form but petal texture a bit soft. Marlborough reports healthy plant, good repeat. Upright growth with long stems; shapely blooms that hold well. Manawatu - rates it the best McGredy rose since 'Paddy Stephens'. HT form, healthy, a top flight prospect for showing, only down side horrific thorns on leaf spines. A great rose.

Peter Bamber. Review of the Newer Roses for the 2002-2003 Season.
Emperor ( MACgeorgi) McGredy 1998: Garden rating 6.9. Exhibition rating 7.0. Disease resistant: Moderate fragrance: Tall. Pale amber/ cream flowers. Waikato - great colour, good garden rose. Can make a good exhibition bloom. Canterbury - a very worthwhile rose for any rose lover; strong, fragrant and healthy. Marlborough - grows very tall, catches wind and marks easily. Plenty of blooms, needs disbudding. Another Marlborough grower says a lovely HT for exhibiting. Lower Hutt likes this rose - a strong healthy bush. Manawatu one of the best for exhibition blooms. Big and beautifully formed; going to plant more. Southland - each bloom on a long stem, very good exhibition form, although a little small.
