Foliage: medium green, abundant and healthy; leaflets mostly rounded, sometimes only 3 in number. Bloom: medium size, well rounded, double, cupped; petals quartered; some yellow-green stamens. Colour: cherry-red stained mauve; more violet on the periphery. fragrance: Weak. Origins are not very clear, as there are numerous varieties carrying this royal name. Thus, in his catalogue of 1843-1844, Van Houtte proposes three gallicas called 'Louis-Philippe'. At the Rosaries of L'haÿ and Sangerhausen 'Louis-Philippe' is attributed to Hardy..and dated 1824: we have not found the source of this information. ...Actually Hardy, in his catalogue of the Roseraie du Luxemburg, which he put together towards 1852-1860, does not mention any variety of this name....The first mention of this variety is in the catalogue of Vibert of 1836, i.e. under the reign of this same Louis-Philippe; it is described there as "vivid pink".
