Bush Roses
McGredy's Gem (Hybrid Tea)... Groundwork is creamy pink with a yellow base, deepening to rose pink. The flowers are of medium size, full. The growth is splendid and of extremely free flowering habit. Faint Tea perfumed. Introduced 1933.

Gem is a poor, weak thing at present.

Yet another of McGredy's "finds," McGredy's Gem, has not impressed me. The colour is not decisive enough and fades badly. It may do better in late autumn.

p109.  John Poulsen.  New Roses at Canterbury, N.Z
McGredy's Gem. Very strong growth and extra free-flowering. Pretty buds, although the open flowers are rather small and fade too quickly.

Harry H. Hazlewood.  The New Roses of 1934.
McGredy's Gem is a variety after the style of 'Madame Butterfly', and carrying 27 petals which fade to nearly white.  It will, on occasions, produce a show bloom and is a good grower.
Website/Catalog  (1934)  Page(s) 35.

New Roses 1934.  McGredy's Gem (HT.  S. McGredy & Son 1933) Colour groundwork is creamy pink with a yellow base, deepening to rose pink towards the edge of the petals. Briefly, a pinkish rose of 'Madame Butterfly' shading, but slightly deeper. Flowers medium size, full, of perfect form, and have a slight tea fragrance. Unusual growth. This rose will grow and flourish where all other varieties fail, thus opening up a new vista for those who in the past have been unable to grow or do Roses well. Undoubtedly the best cutting rose. 4/- each.
A show flower carrying 27 to 30 petals. The colour fades to nearly white, but the variety looks very promising indeed.
