A strong, upright Hybrid Tea. McGredy (Northern Ireland) 1971. ('Arthur Bell' x 'Peer Gynt') Flowers continuously. Height: 90 cm (3 ft.) Some scent.

p55. 'Arthur Bell', over the years has been a marvellous parent. It gave a vitality and vigour to yellow roses. It transmitted its fragrance easily. It gave healthy progeny. I used it a lot, always trying to tame its vigour just a bit and at the same time increase the flower size. The pollen of 'Peer Gynt'. Reimer Kordes' formidable yellow HT, plus 'Arthur Bell' as seed parent, gave me a lovely well-formed deep yellow HT. But it was small, and smallness is a curse. it was still good enough to market under the unromantic name of 'Yellow Pages'. I really looked forward to making a lot more crosses with it as I was sure it had potential as a parent, but at that time my mind wasn't really on my work. I was in the middle of the hassle of emigrating to New Zealand. I hadn't much time for dreaming about future roses. (I dream up a lot of my crosses in the middle of the night. Sleepless hours are thus a time of pleasure). At the last moment, I ran through a list of seedlings I wanted to bring to New Zealand with me - and I forgot 'Yellow Pages'. I've always regretted that. It would have taken me three years to get it back - and that's too long to wait.

p71. Not only has 'Arthur Bell' been popular as a garden rose, it has been of immense importance in bringing its health and vigour to following generations. Yellow Pages and .... are but a few of its progeny.

'Yellow Pages'. McGredy 1972 ('Arthur Bell' x 'Peer Gynt'). 6.6 rating. Reports come from central New Zealand, both sides of the Straits I mean, and in the early ones all speak of promise yet to come. Yellow roses are always eagerly awaited by keen rosarians, they literally queue up with the necessary money clutched in their eager little hands. Yet how often are they let down? Mostly one feels. And this is another case I'm afraid I must report. Promise yes, but nothing after. After a poor start, slow growing, it is found to reach a height of four to six feet and the warmer areas giving the best results. The foliage takes mildew in most areas. Cambridge says it all quite simply in "Leggy growth, doesn't stand out but yet doesn't have any vices".
