Little shrub, to 1 m./3.3 ft. high, similar to R. nitida; all branches densely bristly, but flowering branchlets nearly bald, nodes with more or less paired prickles; leaflets 9, on shoots to 11, simply serrate, bald; flowwers 1-3, deep pink, 4 cm./1.6 in. across, June-July; fruit 8-9 mm./0.3-0.4 in. across, constricted neck, 15 mm./0.6 in. long. (= R. oxyacanthoides K. Koch, not. Bieb.) Before 1870.
