Rose Classification---Science or Mystic Maze?

Let us look now at Amélie Gravereaux. This rose is classified as a Hybrid Rugosa, which to many minds might suggest, if it doesn't flatly indicate, that Amélie Gravereaux is half rugosa and half something else. Actually, this rose is one-fourth Hybrid Perpetual, one-fourth Noisette, and the remaining half Hybrid Rugosa. The half Hybrid Rugosa, bearing the name Conrad Ferdinand Meyer, was the outcome of crossing a cross of the Climbing Tea Gloire de Dijon and the Hybrid Perpetual Duc de Rohan, with Rosa rugosa germanica, presumably a species.
