Silvia Saunders will leave a different kind of heritage: her name will live on through a flower, the Silvia Saunders variety of peony. The peony was developed by her father, the late Prof. A. P, Saunders, who gave the pink petaled flower his daughter's name. That happened back in 1921 when Miss Saunders was a teenager... [...] She's proud, she said, to be associated with something of such importance to the gardening world. The rare Silvia Saunders peony is called one of the best varieties by the American Horticultural Society in the book "The Peonies".
