'Amalia Olson' peony Reviews & Comments

While this is listed as moderately fragrant, it is the most fragrant peony I have, other than Rozella. Most of the others are new this year.
May 3, 2012 This year the shrub is much larger, I've already cut off two blooms before more rain and wind came. Today there are almost a dozen blooms, some large, others smaller. It has a wonderful rose fragrance, and is generally pure white even though in one photo there is a red fleck in the interior. We were having some cool nights, and I've heard that cool weather will bring out those kinds of markings; this is the first time I've seen a red streak.
I picked this peony because the hybridizer came from North Dakota, as did some of my father's relatives. I think the only other white peony that I've seen lately is Festiva Maxima, and might try to find it for this fall's planting.
Amalia Olson does need staking in rough weather, it's blooms are held well above the main foliage, but it's usually strong enough to take some wind and rain, and the blooms don't turn to mush when waterlogged.
June 2014 This spring has been a year for RAIN. Amalia Olsen is still the best all around peony in my garden
