Bred by J. Benjamin Williams (United States, 1996).
Introduced in United States by J.B. Williams and Associates in 2000 as 'Spirit of Ocean City'.
Class:
Florists Rose, Hybrid Tea.  
Bloom:
Red and yellow, yellow reverse.  Strong fragrance.  17 to 25 petals.  Large, double (17-25 petals), exhibition bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:

Height: 42" to 4' (105 to 120cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b and warmer.  Disease susceptibility: very disease resistant.  Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.  Requires spring freeze protection (see glossary - Spring freeze protection) .

J. Benjamin Williams and Associates, breeders of this rose, set us straight on the story behind the naming of it. Here's what they say: The' Spirit of Ocean City' rose is named and dedicated to Ocean City, New Jersey NOT Maryland. May 4th, 2002, is their city-wide opening and grand festival where the roses will be exibited and sold for a limited time. It is an annual event.
