Break o'Day, Cl. is one of the most rampant growers; only 'New Dawn' surpasses it... Like most Brownell climbers, it takes a long time to become established... large ovoid buds opened into very double, apricot to light orange blooms. The foliage is disease-resistant and hardy.

Captain Thomas the yellow color fades to cream and almost white when fully open. It is continuously in bloom, bearing clusters on the end of strong stems.

[Sissung ranks as] queen of the yellow climbers... yellow-red tinged buds that opened into double, deep golden yellow flowers that did not fade, some blooms had stems from twenty to thirty inches long. Regardless of where the flowers are cut, the bush will send out new shoots, each with a new bud...

Climbing Hinrich Gaede makes an excellent pillar rose; it climbs to about eight feet. The reddish pointed bud opens into an orange-yellow to reddish yellow, high-centered flower... does not repeat...

Lady Ashtown, Cl. is very hardy here. The pointed buds and full blooms are beautiful carmine-pink... blackspots late in fall.

Mercedes Gallart, Cl. in the second year, produced a few flowers of an ugly purplish hue that nobody liked; it did not repeat. From the third spring on it has been literally loaded with the same color of flowers, but it repeats during the summer and has another burst of bloom in the fall, when the flowers are a deep pink.

Talisman, Cl. [the first year in Mr. Sissung's garden] attained a height of ten feet but there were no flowers... From the second year on it has been one mass of bloom in the spring, but it does not repeat. It will mildew on the slightest provocation, but it has never had blackspot.
