Taupo is a town in Central North Island plateau, altitude 413m above sea level. Beside Lake Taupo, a volcanic flooded caldera. Our soil is mostly pumice, solid rock pumice found 300mm below soil level. You can seive pumice for a fine silica sand for potting, when mixed with compost. We need lots of fertiliser, especially missing trace elements. Our wind is southerly straight off the lake, and can be bitterly cold in winter. So the garden has an east west wind break fence and all roses are on the northerly side. The lady who planted this rose garden about 20 years ago, soon after the house was built, seems to have chosen well known award winners, all named in the Yates Roses book by Roger Mann, and Botanica's Pocket Roses. So I am hoping that the unidentified roses will also be found there as well.
Along the fence (North facing): White standard rose unidentified., bought at Bunnings Taupo Iceberg Climbing Peace Climbing Dublin Bay Climbing
Six Rose bushes against the house (North facing): 1/ Trumpeter, also found this rose named in the Taupo Rose Gardens.
