It has been years since I actually tried to do any hybridization work. Last year was my first attempt. I collected pollen of Rosa hugonis from Red Butte Gardens (Than you Craig English for helping out with that!), and Rosa woodsii. The only plants I had on hand to pollinate were, Oklahoma and Double Knockout and none took. Might have been some chromosomal difference problems, but as Ralph Moore was prone to saying that "roses cant read" I wonder if there were other problems. 70 flowers worked and not one setting a hip. This year I am going to attempt 'Fru Dagmar Hastrup' x 'Golden Sunblaze', and x 'Easy on the Eyes'. I will also try 'Oklahoma' with 'Fru Dagmar Hastrup' and 'James Mason'.
