Hi, question about my Fair Bianca David Austen - I purchased it potted, already with small spindly canes on it crossing every which way. I moved it to a bigger 4.5 gallon pot and pruned it down almost to the base, hoping new thicker canes would grow in a more orderly and less angular/ugly criss-crossing fashion. Was the pruning a mistake/too excessive?
Is there a chance of new growth from the stubs that are left with no buds on them? All the videos I've seen online have people pruning their canes down to a bud. What happens if you prune your cane and there are no buds left on the remaining cane?
I guess I can just hope for basal shoots, but it's not guaranteed.
It's the beginning of winter right now in Vic, Australia.
Thanks to anyone who can give me some answers.
