These documents will be a great help to identify the real 'Bloomfield Abundance'

Yes, indeed. We have had them all in the files for some time now, reprinted from the American Rose Annuals 1920 p38, and 1926 p100, as well as from The Practical Book of Outdoor Rose Growing written by Capt. Thomas. But it is these photos from Capt. Thomas own album which add authenticity. Thank you for uploading them Merbear.
I would like to ask all those members who have added photos of 'Spray Cecile Brunner' in the past, to MOVE their photos out of this file and into 'Spray Cecile Brunner'. These members are JeanClaudeH Oli_Nwk Meetza Horst Peters Museo Giardino della Rosa Antica markk Eloise Rosita Prieto Josef Distl Rahel Buehler David Elliott Beverly Sloan Rosenschule Ruf anonymous-51334 The Old Rosarian anonymous-65
Many thanks.

I should have done this sooner! Cap’t Thomas was my great grandfather. A lot of his images, albums etc. were packed away, to be found upon the death of my grandmother in 2006. I got in touch with Sacramento’s Historic Rose Garden and was invited to attend the 2012 Historic Rose Conference, were I was given a young Bloomfield Abundance by Fred Boutin, who also spoke on his findings.

Hi Merbear! Did you ever publish anything about your grandfather and his roses?

No I haven’t, though I have spoken to someone who is interested in a bio from the golf angle.

Neat! (not about not publishing anything about him and his roses, but about someone wanting to publish about his golf interests and golf course designs!) And, I'm glad you're still around! You get kind of worried when you see someone hasn't visited the site in more than a year, particularly THESE days!

Merbear I am wondering if you might be interested in sharing photos of Bloomfield Abundance in files suitable for a Heritage Roses in Australia journal. I would very much like to be able to illustrate the differences between the original Bloomfield Abundance and the rose which is generally believed and sold as Bloomfield Abundance but is in fact Spray Cecile Brunner.

That would be wonderful! I hope any images not here and used in the article would also be shared here.

Absolutely! It would be my honor to contribute to the knowledge base of this rose. I can share pictures of my 3 also if interested. My daughter owns a copy/print business so she can put my images in the form needed and send.

Thank you Merbear. I look forward to the photos. The following article in the HMF references by the now late Hillary Merrifield. The Real Bloomfield Abundance Stand Up(Dec 1996) Page(s) 31-33. Vol 18, No. 4.of the Heritage Roses in Australia journal needs to be reprinted with photos of both bushes showing the differences. Rose nurseries, especially, need to change the name of the imposter in their listings.

My email is merbearw@aol.com. Now this is only the 3 images I put in hmf, that is all I have. My daughter has the scans, she routinely sends out files. I just need to know how you want them. We could discuss this by email,
