I am trying to identify this rose, found growing near Canberra, Australia. My closest guess is Polyantha Grandiflora. Can anyone verify? (photos to follow...)

That is a very good guess Felicite. Most characteristics match what I grow as 'Polyantha Grandiflora' (which came to me incorrectly as 'Wedding Day') Consider reassigning your photos to 'Polyantha Grandiflora' - you clearly show identifying features.

Just wondering where in Australia you are growing Ali Baba. I am in Toowoomba and was thinking of growing it on a fencing panel at the end iof my potting shed. Thanks Bonita

Beautiful rose. The ruffled flower shape looks a bit like 'Polka'.

Hi Nastarana Thank you and yes, you're right, the flowers are very ruffled, like Polka, but the blooms are not as big as Polka and have less petals. They compensate for this with the abundance of blooms.

Hi Bonita I grow Ali Baba in the Southern Tablelands of NSW, so, very cold winters and warm, but not too hot summers, with little to no humidity. It is in a position sheltered from the hot afternoon sun, and the worst of the winds. I think it would go well next to your potting shed. This rose does make a statement! :-)

Thanks very much. I will have to wait fir it next season now. I might grow a Petrea with it to quickly cover the frame before the rose arrives.

Ordered one online, didn't come with a label so mystery around identity still remains. Have emailed the propagator to see if they can shed more info.
Foliage size is similar to the drift series (eg Peach Drift), so presumably a similar cross of a wichuraiana derivative and a mini.
Didn't find thorns on it (including under the leaves) but possibly too early to say if they'll come with a more mature size.

Just bought a Mini Cherry from Bunnings (Photo, with tag uploaded). This one does have a few thorns, below the flower clusters. A very pleasing pinky-red shade.

It is definitely not Cl Perle d'Or.
From Leonie K: It looks very much like 'Prosperity'. After watching it for some time I am convinced that it is different as the bunches of blooms are larger and the canes are longer and it is more of a climber than 'Prosperity'. However it is very similar. From Bonita: on the Bunnings (hardware chain) label it is described as a late 19th Century rose. It has a little pink bud and the blooms form a cluster and start off as cream and then become a very white star shaped bloom.

Following a vague memory, I have searched my computer and found that Ron (and Hazel) Treloar in Queensland, rang me on March 1, 2002 and was chasing information on 'Prosperity' 1919. He said: "At a house ‘Galgowan’ on the Darling Downs, which is being restored (and last lived in in 1927) there is a rose which someone has identified as ‘Prosperity’."
I wonder if Ron and Hazel have come to any conclusion over the years and if their foundling was the same as 'Pearl Dior'.
It would really help if member Bonita could add that Bunnings label as a photo. There may be distinguishing code that might identify the distributor (who sold the rose to Bunnings).

Here was a discussion of "Perle Dior" in 2006:

Thanks Jedmar. i had found that one and have reassigned Lulu’s photo of ‘Pearl Dior’ into this file. I wonder if anyone can help on advice about reading the Plant Label number 9 337085 000443 on the back of the label?

It looks super pretty. I had considered it could be Alister Stella Grey for a second, but its definitely not on a closer inspection.
Maybe this is a sport of a polyantha? It looks to have super cute and round blooms.

I just uploaded a photo of 2 plants that I recently bought (very cheaply) from Bunnings, in the Southern Tablelands of NSW. They were labelled "Perle d'Or". They have just started to bloom, and the flowers are white, as described in this rose, Pearl Dior. Is some nursery person throwing in an unnamed seedling ring in?
