I planted one Polka in march, and it grew very well ans strong, with a lot a gorgius flowers very soon, and very light and shiny foliage. they are very full, but no problem with rain, and the best quality for me is that you can use them in flower arrangements : they last nearly 5 ou 6 days, if you cut them in the early morning, when they are not already totally opened.

This rose will not work in bouquets. It loses its petals almost immediately upon cutting. Nice blooms, but only when on the plant.

Mine drops its petals also while on the plant... After rain I find the whole bowl of petals beneath the plant. Will throw away this rose after this season.

get the same problem with it, and was very very disapointed about that ! i kept it 3 years, then i throw it away...love David Autin roses, but sometimes...he should not say "the best" about a rose that ends in 2 days !!!

I only kept it one season. That was plenty for me. Fair Bianca is a better Austin white, if you are looking for an Austin white. If you want a white for bouquets and don't care if it's an Austin or not, get Bolero, the Meilland floribunda. Bolero is a better rose than any Austin white in every respect with a similar appearance and growth habit to everything the Austin marketing machine says about Claire Austin, which turns out to be much hype, little substance. I'm also liking Kosmos in that category, but it's a bit early to tell for sure as that's a newbie for me.

Bien cordialement, Edith

Dear Marina
do you remember our conversation about long lasting roses for flower arrangement ? I saw your photos, and noticed that you had a lot of wonderfull "lady of shalott", would you recommand these to me, now that you get some experience with it ?
by the way, i put a "Polka" in my garden in march, and it get big very quickly, the roses are gorgeous, and they last about 5 ou 6 days !!!
have a nice day, Edith

Dear Edith, I would recommend 'Lady of Shallot' in a heartbeat. It is a very nice rose. The bush grows a little bit wider than taller. After two years it is about 4' tall and may be 5' wide. Nice, arching branches. The growth is dense, lots of basal breaks. I can not attest to the durability of the blooms - my rose grows (actually three of them) in full sun from dusk till dawn. And flowers last maybe for three to four days, fading gradually, but still remaining very graceful and beautiful. Without spraying, it has above average Black Spot resistance.
I also have 'Polka' but I am not very happy with it. For me, year after year, it overwinters rather poorly - lots of brown pith in spring. Have to cut it quite short every year. Also, mine does not bloom much for me, although the blooms are wonderful - very large and, yes, they do last for a long time on the bush.
If you can order 'Lady of Shallot', I am sure you won't regret it. Overall, beautiful rose!
My warmest regards, Marina

thank you, dear Marina, for your advise. last question : witch one do you prefer, between 'lady of shalott' ans "lady Emma Hamilton" ? my garden is too small for both, i have to choose the one that could give the more flower with the less problems !!!
sorry for your Polka, i hope it won't do the same here next year, because i really enjoy to see its wonderfull blooms every sunny morning.
have a nice day !

Dear Edith, If I were to chose between these two, I would go with 'Lady of Shallot'. I think it blooms more than 'Lady Emma Hamilton', at least it is so in my garden.
