I made a few late season crosses with this rose as the pollen parent. It is very generous with pollen so now well see if it's pollen fertile. I made crosses with diploid, triploid and tetrapoid seed parents.

And?... The suspense is killing me.
Presumably, offspring would be once blooming, and take years to bloom, but I would be very curious as to how many hips/seeds/germinations she gave you, and the percentage of thornless offspring.

Wichurana 'Thornless' is an extremely aggressive grower. It is smooth on the stems but has vicious prickles on the underside of the rachis.

I got this rose fronm Paul in early 2011. It is very healthy here in the Cascade Foorhills. Blackspot is always a problem for me but it has remained very clean. It has a very nice full, rounded and shrubby habit and brilliant red abundant flowers. Paul: very nice work on this one.

It's been a few years since you posted pix of this rose. How has it performed for you? I'm in San Francisco, so I probably have a cooler garden, tem-wise.

I lived by the Monterey Bay so my climate was just as, well, weird. It kept its color well and remained clean. It wasn't as vigorous as it may have been in a warmer climate. I really like it and the color is pretty unique.

Moved this rose in the middle of winter 2014 from the Central California coast to Reno, NV. She handled the shock in winter temperatures just fine. She received no winter protection and temps often dropped to 15 - 20 degrees F on a regular basis. I just kept the soil from drying.
As of June 8, 2014, she is doing great in a two gallon nursery pot. Temps have run into the low 90's (*F) and extremely low humidity at about 15% most days and nights. It has remained very disease resistant...no rust, BS or mildew.
